David Moyes has insisted he does not blame himself for Manchester United's poor start - then claimed his side can go pound for pound in the transfer market with big-spending neighbours City over the coming years.
City go to Old Trafford for a derby on Tuesday night knowing another win could complete United’s humiliation this season and again place question marks over Moyes’s future.
This situation has arisen because of United's awful form so far but when questioned about it, the manager said: ‘I don’t actually blame myself.
'It wouldn’t be right to say there are things you wouldn’t maybe look at in a different way. But I’ve looked back at many things and most of the things we’ve carried out we would continue to do.’
Moyes’s self-belief will either encourage or baffle United fans, depending on their point of view.
And he dismissed suggestions that the reigning Barclays Premier League champions cannot compete with their neighbours in the transfer market as he prepares to overhaul the squad at Old Trafford this summer.
With Patrice Evra set to leave and midfielder Darren Fletcher among those for whom United will listen to offers, Moyes — presuming he is still in charge — plans a revolution he hopes will go some way to addressing the power balance in Manchester. ‘This club has got a spending power too,’ said Moyes on Monday night.
