SEDOU KEITA HAS BEEN SIGNED
French daily newspaper L’Equipe understands that AS Roma are set to complete the signing of Malian midfielder Seydou Keita from Valencia. The 34-year-old has reportedly agreed a one-year deal with the Giallorossi and he arrives on a free transfer. Roma boss Rudi Garcia was determined to sign players with Champions League experience this summer and the Mali international certainly fits the bill.
He has won no less than two titles in Europe’s elite competition, making a total of 50 appearances and scoring 7 goals in the process while playing for Sevilla and Barcelona. Following a successful spell in China, Keita has proved he still has what it takes to play at a high level during a six-month stint with Valencia, and he is now set for a Serie A switch.
Keita was offered a new two-year deal by los Che, but he ultimately opted to accept a lucrative offer from AS Roma.
According to the report, Rudi Garcia’s side have signed the player on a one year deal with an option for a second year and the player’s wages is reportedly set to be less than €1m. It is expected that the 34-year-old will sign the contract in the coming few days.
The Giallorossi had a stunning season finishing runners up to Juventus in the Serie A and the capital club would love to go one step further in teh coming campaign
Keita will add valuable depth to the Wolves’ outfit and is an immensely versatile player capable of playing either a central defensive midfielder or a centre back if needed.
Valencia based newspaper Superdeporte reported last month that Liverpool are in pole position to sign him, as the midfielder was eyeing to play in the Champions League. Reports also emerged that Premier League giants Manchester United could be another possible destination for Keita, as he would seamlessly fit into the quick and vertical football of Louis van Gaal.
