As the best player in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo is used to being in the thick of the action as he carries Real Madrid forward in pursuit of glory.
But it seems that even when the Portuguese superstar is left on the bench, he can't resist getting involved.
Ronaldo ranted, remonstrated and ultimately celebrated from his position on the substitutes' bench as Borussia Dortmund closed Real's 3-0 first leg advantage to just the one goal in the second leg of their Champions League tie on Tuesday night.
One moment he was grimacing and clinging to the dug-out for dear life as Dortmund again threatened the goal of Iker Casillas.
The next he was right on the edge of the technical area, whispering instructions and advice to his teammates whenever they passed nearby.
And at the very end, after spending the final minutes prowling the touchline imploring referee Damir Skomina to blow the full-time whistle, Ronaldo was first onto the pitch to congratulate and celebrate Real's progress to the last four.
There was an embrace for Gareth Bale, high-fives for the others and a thumbs up to the travelling support in the corner of the cavernous Westfalenstadion as Real squeezed through 3-2 on aggregate despite losing.
